After updating my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 18.6.2, Face ID suddenly stopped working. It doesn’t give me an error, but when I go to unlock the phone or log into an app, the lock screen just sits there and won’t scan my face.
I tried resetting Face ID, but it won’t even let me finish the setup it freezes on the “move your head slowly” part. Camera itself works fine for photos and video, so this seems like a software issue.
Anyone else seeing this on their device? Is there a trick to get Face ID working again or do I need to contact Apple Support?
Same thing happened on my iPhone 13 after 18.6.2. The only thing that got Face ID working again was doing a full Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings). It doesn’t erase your photos or apps, just wipes things like Wi-Fi and Face ID settings. After I set Face ID up again, it finally scanned my face properly
iPhone 13 mini, exact same issue. I can take selfies and video fine, but when I try to set up Face ID it just hangs on the “move your head slowly” screen forever. feels like a software bug.
One thing you can try before giving up: go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. It wipes Wi-Fi passwords and Face ID data but keeps photos/apps. After I did that on my 12 Pro, I was able to set Face ID up again from scratch and it finally scanned properly.
same thing here on my 14 Pro. updated to 18.6.2 and Face ID just quit. no error messages, just won’t unlock.
This is ridiculous. Face ID worked fine for years and now one update breaks it? I’m stuck typing passwords into banking apps like it’s 2015. Apple really needs to test these updates better.
