iOS 18.6.2 causing random restarts on iPhone 15

Since updating to iOS 18.6.2 my iPhone 15 has gone crazy. Out of nowhere the phone just shuts down, shows the Apple logo, and then restarts again. Sometimes it happens while I’m just scrolling Safari, other times when the phone is sitting idle on the table.

This NEVER happened before updating. I tried force restart, cleared some storage, even turned off background refresh, but it still keeps rebooting randomly. It feels like a software bug because it started right after the update.

Is anyone else’s iPhone 15 stuck in this restart cycle on 18.6.2?

  1. A standard restart won’t clear certain kernel or process faults after an update. You’ll want to perform a force restart, which reloads the system at a deeper level without wiping data:

    1. Press and quickly release Volume Up.
    2. Press and quickly release Volume Down.
    3. Press and hold the Side button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo reappears. This can take 10–15 seconds. Ignore the “slide to power off” prompt  keep holding until the logo shows.

This sequence flushes out stuck processes and can break the restart loop introduced by iOS 18.6.2.

  2. Quick thing to check  Do you have a vpn profile sitting in settings, even if you’re not using it? i had nordvpn installed ages ago, thought it wasn’t doing anything, but apparently the profile was still active in the background. once i went to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > VPN and deleted the profile completely (not just toggled it off), the random restarts stopped. you can always reinstall later if you need it, but worth trying.

  3. this is ridiculous. my 16 Pro Max cost over a grand and now it restarts while sitting on the desk doing nothing. I’ve done force restarts, reset settings, even wiped a ton of apps. nothing. why release updates that break phones?? makes me regret updating at all.

  4. iPhone 15 Pro here. reset all settings (General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings) finally stabilized the device. no data lost, but I had to re-enter Wi-Fi and Face ID. it looks like some corrupted setting from the update was triggering the restarts.

  5. had this happen on my 13 Pro too. updating all my apps in the App Store actually helped, I guess some older versions were clashing with iOS 18.6.2. not saying it’s a magic fix but it hasn’t rebooted in a week now.

  6. on my iPhone 15 Pro Max the reboots kept happening until I deleted a couple of apps I’d sideloaded ages ago. as soon as I wiped those, the phone stopped crashing.

  7. weird one but pulling the SIM out and putting it back in actually stopped the random restarts on my iPhone 11. no idea why it works but worth a try. note: ( this worked but not on the ios 18.6.2 update)

  8. my 15 Plus didn’t just restart randomly  it would freeze up first, then crash, especially when I was using the camera. after a few months of that and a couple visits to support, apple finally agreed to replace it under applecare. since moving to the replacement device, no freezes or reboots at all.

  9. ugh my iPhone 14 Pro started doing the exact same thing right after 18.6.2. constant restarts out of nowhere. never once happened before this update. honestly getting so fed up  stuff like this makes me think about ditching iPhone altogether with another brands phone.

  10. same deal on my iPhone 16 Pro after putting 18.6.2 on. it’ll just restart out of nowhere even though battery health says normal and I’ve got tons of storage left. tried the usual stuff  forced restart, reset settings  nothing changes. definitely feels tied to this update.

  11. iPhone 13 Pro here. After updating to 18.6.2 it started rebooting but only when I’m on apps like Instagram or Safari for more than a couple minutes. Battery health shows 95% and I’ve got plenty of storage left, so I don’t think it’s hardware. I already did a force restart and even turned off background refresh, but it’s still looping. feels like something in this update broke stability. anyone else seeing the same on 13 Pro?

  12. same thing happening on my iPhone 14 pro after installing 18.6.2. phone randomly shuts off and now it only stays stable if it’s plugged in, even though battery health shows fine. never had a single issue before this update so I’m leaning toward it being a software bug not hardware. curious if any other 13 users are seeing this too?
