Siri not responding after iOS 18.6 update on iPhone

Just updated my iPhone to iOS 18.6 and now Siri won’t respond at all. Doesn’t matter if I say “Hey Siri” or press the side button, it just sits there. Even basic stuff like asking for the time or the weather nothing.

I already checked settings, Siri is turned on, and I even have it set up to read texts out loud with my AirPods Pro 2, but there’s no sound at all. Tried restarting and toggling Siri off/on, but still no luck.

Anyone else running into this after the 18.6 update? Is this a bug or did I miss something in the settings?

  1. i reinstalled the update through my macbook (itunes/finder whatever they call it now) and siri started working again. i think the over-the-air update glitched something. pain in the neck to do but at least it fixed mine.

  2. same here, siri just went blank after 18.6. i ask “what’s the weather” and she just… stares at me. lol. i went into settings > siri & search, turned off “listen for hey siri” and side button, restarted the phone, then turned both back on. it actually worked for me after retraining the voice.

  3. Same here, after updating Siri just ignores me half the time. Turning Siri off and on didn’t help hoping Apple pushes a fix soon.

  4. for anyone wondering, the issue seems half software half bug. if u can’t wait for 18.6.1, best bet is to toggle siri off, reboot, then retrain. i got it working after the 3rd try. not saying it’ll fix everyone’s but worth a shot before heading to apple.

  5. Weird fix that worked for me: I turned on Content & Privacy Restrictions in Screen Time, restarted the phone, and Siri randomly came back. Turned the restriction back off after and it still worked.

Definitely feels like some glitch with this update. Give it a try, it saved me from tossing the phone out of frustration.

  6. ugh same problem. mine stopped working completely with my airpods. thought they were broken. turns out siri was muted in settings under “spoken responses.” once i changed it back to “always speak” it started talking again. not perfect but better than nothing.

  7. Honestly this is ridiculous. Siri worked fine on 18.5, I updated to 18.6 and now I have a $1,000 phone that won’t even tell me the weather. Apple really needs to test these updates better. Tried everything short of restoring the whole phone, still flaky.

  8. I had the same headache on my 16 Pro. Siri just refused to wake up after the update. At first I thought maybe my mic was dead or something. Then I went into Screen Time and saw Siri & Dictation were turned off in restrictions (no idea why). I switched them back on, but nothing changed.
The weird part is it only worked when I went into Siri settings and changed the “listen for” option. As soon as I flipped it over to Hey Siri it gave me a popup to enable Siri again. I hit yes and boom, it started working straight away. Haven’t had issues since.

  9. On iPhone 16 Pro Max here. The workaround was:
Settings → Siri & Search → Siri Responses → change from Automatic to Prefer Spoken Responses.
Restart required. After reboot, Siri gave audio feedback again.

  10. I don’t think it’s just your phone. My wife’s iPhone 15 and my 14 Pro both lost Siri right after 18.6. Side button wouldn’t trigger it either. My guess is it’s some bug with the Siri service in this build. Restarting didn’t work for me, but when I did a reset of all settings (not erase data, just reset settings), Siri came back.

  11. Same here on my iPhone 16 Pro. Updated to 18.6 → Siri dead. Hoping Apple drops a quick fix update soon.

  12. had the same issue right after i went to 18.6.2 on my iphone 15. siri just stopped talking back completely, side button didn’t do a thing either.
i didn’t wanna wipe my phone so i tried a reset all settings (not erase all content, just the settings one) and weirdly enough that brought siri back for me. kinda annoying cause now i had to put my wifi passwords back in but at least it works again.
def feels like an apple bug more than anything we can control.
